Gogoi confident to win 10 LS seats in Assam

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday said that Congress would win at least ten of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
“We are confident to win ten seats, though our target is 12. Winning 12 seats will not be a surprise for us, but we’ll definitely win in 10 constituencies”, Gogoi told reporters here. “We (Congress) are here to stay…we have been here before and will also stay in the future”, he said.
Assam will go for a three-phase Lok Sabha poll on April 7, 12 and 24 next.
Govt will firmly deal with anti-talk NDFB: Gogoi
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday said his government would firmly deal with the anti-talk NDFB(Songbijit) faction which was threatening Congress members.
“We’ll deal with the NDFB very firmly. They will try to indulge in subversive activities and we’ll catch as many illegal arms as we can”, Gogoi told reporters here. “Who are they threatening…they are threatening Congressmen only. But they are not threatening the BJP”, he said.
Answering queries on it threatening to call bandhs when Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi comes to Assam to campaign for Lok Sabha polls, Gogoi said “let them call bandh on the day Rahul Gandhi comes. We will see the response then”.
Meanwhile, two security personnel were injured in an ambush by NDFB(S) militants in Assam’s Udalguri district on on Tuesday.
A joint patrolling team of army and police was attacked by heavily-armed militants near Mazbat Reserve Forest in Orang, injuring an army personnel and a policeman.
The security forces have launched a massive combing operation in the area to nab the militants who managed to escape into the thick jungles. (PTI)
