3 tiebreakers required in invitational football tourney

SHILLONG: All three matches of the 1st Meghalaya Invitation Local Football Tournament, organised by the Pay For Right Youth and Cultural Club, held on Thursday required tiebreakers to separate the respective teams in what turned out to be close contests held at Malki Ground.

The opening match of the day was the final fixture of the first round between Malki Oldies and Mawkhria Nangiaikiew S&CC. Full time ended 2-2, but Malki Oldies came through the penalty shoot-out 5-4 to advance to the second round.

Later on, Demseiniong SC became the first team to qualify for the quarterfinals by defeated Mawryngkneng Students 8-7 in a shoot-out after full time here had also ended 2-2.

Kynshi Solid Target then joined Demseiniong in the quarters by beating FOTU Soccer Academy 4-3 on penalties. Full time here had ended 1-1.

Two games of the second round will be held on Friday.

First, Wahkaji Students FC will face Phlang Mawsyrpat Lade FC at 2:00pm, while Wahingdoh Toppers will then play Upper Lumparing Haphi Latei FC at 3:00pm.
