SHILLONG: The KHADC on Thursday approved a Vote on Account of Rs.15.24 crore for three months with effect from April 1, 2014.

The Executive Committee (EC) of the Council was unable to present the full budget for 2014-15 as the District Council receipts from the State Government for the period 2013-2014 was due.

KHADC CEM Ardent M Basaiawmoit informed that the full budget for 2014-2015 would be presented in the next session of the Council. A major allocation of the Vote on Account was made for the Civil Works and Development departments which has been fixed at Rs.6.98 crore.

An allocation of Rs.3.73 crore was made to the General Administration Department; Rs.1.28 crore for the Forest Administration Department while Rs.1.03 crore has been earmarked for Revenue and Finance departments for a period of three months.

Earlier, while participating in the discussion on the vote on account, Langrin MDC Manstudy Nongrem suggested the need to strengthen the functioning of the district council at Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills with the establishment of a branch office, saying that the same was necessary considering that the district was located along the international border.

According to Nongrem, the rich coal deposits in the district have given rise to mass influx of illegal migrants from Bangladesh because the Hima are weak.

Nongrem suggested that the Executive Committee should allocate funds for the same from the 14th Finance Commission.

Mawkynrew MDC Banteidor Lyngdoh suggested that the EC should allocate funds for upliftment of sports.

The CEM assured the House that all proposals and suggestions submitted by the members would be duly examined and subsequently incorporated in the regular budget subject to the availability of funds.
