Kite flying competition evokes huge response

TURA: Two hundred people, mostly students and youths participated keenly in the kite flying competition which was held as part of “Fun With Kites” Festival organized by the Meghalaya Election Department in collaboration with District Election Office, South West Garo Hills at Ampati Football Ground here on Thursday.

The festival, organized as part of SVEEP campaign, is aimed at generating voters’ awareness on the need to exercise their franchise and to increase voter turnout in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections in the State on April 9, next.

The participants also took the Voter’s Pledge before the start of the kite flying competition.

The kite flying festival was attended by the Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Ampati, Ram Singh, officials & staff of Election department and host of other district officials, who also tried their hand at kite flying.

Besides kite flying competition, other attractions during the day-long festival were fun kite flying and family entertainment show, Air show and LED kite flying show which were conducted by kite flying team of Singhania company from Shillong.
