Kohima: For the first time in the state, contemporary musicians underwent Rock and Pop examinations under International Music Examinations Board from Trinity College, UK at Symphony School of Rock in Kohima on Friday.
According to a release on Saturday, the examination was conducted by James Godfrey, a performer and educator with diverse experience in both the Rock and Pop and classical industries from London.
As performer, secessionist and educator, he has gone around the world playing with his Jazz band, playing at West end musicals or recording for BBC.
Interacting with media persons at the Symphony School of Rock, Godfrey informed that the exam was well organized by the school authority and said the students were assessed on international standard guidelines.
Godfrey said he was encouraged to see the mixed standard of the students, adding that the students as musicians have bright future.
The examiners appeared for drums, keyboard, electric guitar and vocals ranging from the entry level of Grade 1 to Grade 8.
The unique feature of the Rock and Pop Exams was the familiarity of the music materials where the syllabus for the examinations are taken from current songs and music from the rock and pop genres currently played and sung around the world.
Area Representative of Trinity College UK, Khyochano TCK Ngully said performance was the core of the Trinity Rock and Pop exams.
He said these exams would help musicians develop valuable playing skills and achieve their musical ambitions.
Rock and Pop exams are fully accredited and are part of a suite of qualifications offered by Trinity College London, Ngully said. (UNI)
