SHILLONG: Subir M Marak of the Congress joined the National People’s Party (NPP) at a public meeting held in Rangsakona constituency, West Garo Hills on Saturday.
Marak made the switch in the presence of NPP chief PA Sangma.
Marak had contested the 2013 Assembly elections as an Independent candidate from Rangsakona and secured nearly 6000 votes to finish second.
According to an NPP statement, Marak realized the importance of PA Sangma’s leadership.
It was only under PA Sangma that the issues of Garo Hills will be heard in the Parliament, the NPP added.
Marak is a local resident of Rangsakona village.
