SHILLONG: Shillong Vidyalaya Secondary School in collaboration with the State Council of Science Technology and Environment (SCSTE) organized a three-day Mathematics workshop from March 27-29 at Debakumar Das Memorial Hall, Bishnupur, to generate interest in Mathematics among Secondary level students.

Students of about eight schools participated in the workshop.

Renowned Mathematics teachers like Prof. B.K. Dev Sarma, Prof. S.S. Khare and various other associate professors of Mathematics from NEHU delivered lectures on various topics related to Mathematics.

Most of the speakers observed that over the last few years, the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) has made mathematics as one of the optional subjects, due to which students do not take the subject seriously. The said that Mathematics should become a compulsory subject as application of this subject is required in most of the other subjects.

Otherwise if students do not have basic knowledge of mathematics in Secondary level, they will suffer in any competitive exam, the experts said.
