TURA: A trader running a hardware store in Rongrikkimgre village of Chokpot in South Garo Hills was abducted at gunpoint in broad daylight on Monday during the weekly market day.

Three armed militants entered the market while trade was taking place and picked up Dulal Roy who runs a hardware shop in the market. He hailed from Sibbari village.

Police suspect the involvement of either the banned GNLA or newly-formed outfit A’chik Songna An’pachakgipa Kotok (ASAK) led by Reding T Sangma who broke away from Sohan Shira’s group.

A suspected over ground worker of militants has reportedly been picked up in connection with the kidnapping. The abduction comes just three days after police exchanged gunfire with two motorcycle borne militants in another part of the same district.
