SHILLONG: Terming the Congress party as the only party that is genuinely fighting against corruption, sitting MP and Congress candidate Vincent Pala said that the party will win the upcoming elections and form the government in New Delhi again.

Speaking at a rally in Sohra on Wednesday, Pala stressed that the policies, research and development work done by a party are more important than religion, name calling and criticism which is often used by several parties to lure voters.

He said that there are several politicians who have earlier tried and failed in their attempts of bringing down the Congress party by spreading false propaganda and added that they will fail again.

Pala also stated that India has the largest number of youth voters currently and they will be the ones who will shape the future of the country. He accepted that the current generations of young voters are unsatisfied with the politicians and added that the party is well aware of the situation and is working on several policies to solve their problems.

Replying to the allegations of corruption against the Congress party, he said that the Congress party implemented the Right to Information (RTI) for everyone to find out the truth and added that the party had nothing to hide.

He also assured farmers that FDI in Retail will be beneficial for them and help them financially by removing the threat of the middleman.

He further added that the Congress party has done exceedingly well in the building international relations and improving international partnerships and protecting the country’s economy while the world suffered during the Euro and American financial crisis.

Minister of Forest and Environment, PrestoneTyngsong, who was also present at the rally praised Pala for his contribution to the State in the last five years.

He urged the people present at the rally to vote for the Congress party as it will be ) beneficial for the State due to its stronger presence in the centre as compared to the regional parties or independent candidates of the State who have very little or no voice at the centre.

He also dismissed the demand for the implementation of the ILP and said that there is no threat to the indigenous people of the State.

He added that the growth in population of the locals in the State has been on a rise according to the latest census and insisted that their interests can be well protected by simply strengthening the powers of the DC and headmen of all localities in the State instead of implementing the ILP which could harm the State’s economy.

Former HNLC Chairman and Mawhati MLA Julius Dorphang also extended his support to Pala.

The Congress held its campaign meeting at Mawhati where Dorphang marched along with hundreds of his supporters under the banner of Mawhati People’s Election Committee and declared their support in favour of the Congress candidate.

Earlier, former HNLC member and Mawhati MDC James Sylliang also came forward to support Pala.
