SHILLONG: AICC general secretary in charge Meghalaya Luzinho Faleiro expressed the hope on Thursday that Meghalaya Pradesh Congress members opposing the candidature of Vincent H Pala for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat would bury their differences under instructions from the party high command and work for his victory.

“The message of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi is very clear that everyone should unitedly work to ensure the victory of the party candidate. Everybody will have differences but they will have to in line,” Faleiro said, while admitting that there were differences within the party rank and file on the question of supporting the sitting MP.

He was talking to newsmen in Shillong.

He was confident that there would not be any differences in the future, though the polling is now less than a week away. “Everybody has understood the importance of this election,” Faleiro said.

Later, after the meeting of the Congress MLAs at Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma residence, AICC general secretary said that he was happy that the MLAs had resolved their differences.

Asked if the AICC had not acted too late in addressing the issue, he said that it was never too late to address a problem within the family. “We have to respect this outcome. I know the enlightened people of the State will also be happy to see that whatever differences are sorted out,” Faleiro added.

MPCC president DD Lapang claimed that forces from outside were trying to create confusion within the party. “We are united to ensure the victory of the party. We have told Faleiro to tell the AICC president that there are no more differences among the party leaders in the State,” Lapang added.

A party meeting chaired by Faleiro was attended by Congress MLAs Roshan Warjri, AL Hek, MM Danggo, Prestone Tynsong, Dr C Lyngdoh, RV Lyngdoh, Ampareen Lyngdoh, Kennedy Khyriem, Ngaitlang Dhar and Sniawbhalang Dhar.
