SHILLONG: Time and again political parties have raised the issue of money power in elections in the State and taking strong cognizance of such reports, the Election department has taken several measures to stop the use of money power in any election.
Speaking to media persons, Chief Election Officer Prashant Naik said that the election department has taken several steps to ensure that money power does not influence the electioneering process.
Naik said that the Election Department has several mechanisms like flying squads and election observers who are keeping a tab on the activities of political parties and candidates. According to Naik, the election department can take action against bribe givers as well as bribe takers under the provisions of IPC even as he said that there are several orders under CrPC for carrying of cash during election and all political parties and candidates are to strictly follow the guidelines of the model code of conduct.
