TURA: Two armed men in a motorcycle went to the construction site of the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Chasingre, outskirts of Tura, and abducted the company’s manager at gunpoint on Wednesday night.
The place of occurrence is approximately seven kilometres from the main Tura town.
The victim, Rakesh Pandey, who was overseeing the construction of the terminus was asleep in his quarter at Chasingre when two youths came and broke down the door. They dragged out the manager and took him away in the same motorcycle.
The bus terminus construction work is being undertaken by Gautam Construction Limited of Guwahati.
The abduction of a company employee from the vicinity of Tura comes just a day after another group of militants lobbed a hand grenade and opened fire on a wine store injuring a worker in Williamnagar town.

On Thursday, shops downed shutters for the day throughout Williamnagar in protest over the escalating violence in the region and a crowd numbering over a hundred from different walks of life intruded into the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The crowd rushed into the office chamber of Deputy Commissioner, V K Mantri, demanding adequate protection from militants and criminals.
The Deputy Commissioner V K Mantri was, however, not available for comment.
East Garo Hills district police chief Davis Nestell R Marak who was engaged in a meeting with election observers had to cut short his brief and rush to the DC’s office complex to take stock of the situation. In an attempt to diffuse the situation, the police chief assured the crowd of intensive patrolling by the security forces in the vulnerable areas and setting up of a police outpost in the vicinity of the market, work on which has begun.
