Photo exhibition organised to encourage voters

SHILLONG: District Election Officer of Shillong Parliamentary constituency, Sanjay Goyal on Saturday inaugurated a photo exhibition on General Elections to Lok Sabha election 2014 at Assam Club, Laban organized by the Field Exhibition Office, Directorate of Advertisement and Visual Publicity in collaboration with Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya.

The exhibition is being organized with an objective to encourage voters to exercise their right to franchise on April 9 when Lok Sabha elections will be held in Meghalaya for two seats of Shillong and Tura. Election Officer Sanjay Goyal expressed his happiness at the initiative of DAVP to create awareness among people on the importance of voting even as he requested people to attend the exhibition.

Demonstration of EVMs will also be held at the exhibition where people can come and try out the process of casting their votes in the EVMs. According to Goyal, the Election Department would also organize a photography competition on the theme of election for professional and amateur photographers and winners of the competition will be awarded.

Similarly, the department has lined up entertainment programmes on April 9 at Lady Hydari Park for people since the day of poll is a State holiday.
