Ri-Bhoi (Meghalaya), July 1: The University of Science & Technology Meghalaya
(USTM), in association with PA Sangma International Medical College & Hospital (PIMC) and IA
Ayurvedic Medical College (IAMC), celebrated National Doctor’s Day 2026 with great reverence
and enthusiasm under the theme & Behind the Mask: Who Heals the Healers?’ The programme
honoured the dedication, compassion, and invaluable contributions of doctors to society.
The event was attended by the Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque, Vice Chancellor
Prof. G.D. Sharma, Padma Shri Dr Sarbeswar Sahariah, Pro Vice Chancellor, USTM, Prof. (Dr.)
A.C. Kataki, Director, Medical Administration, USTM, Dr. Jogesh Sharma, Director, Medical
Education & Research, PIMC, Prof. (Dr.) H.K. Sharma, Principal, PIMC, Dr. Anil Kumar Sharma,
Senior Professor, IAMC, along with several distinguished doctors, professors, and healthcare
professionals.
The programme began with the felicitation of senior doctors and professors in recognition of their
outstanding contributions to medical education, healthcare delivery, and institutional development.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Amal Chandra Kataky highlighted the evolving role of doctors
in an increasingly complex healthcare environment and stressed the importance of compassion
alongside clinical excellence.
A special segment was dedicated to honouring the Founding Doctors of PA Sangma International
Medical College & Hospital for their pioneering efforts in establishing the institution and shaping
its academic and healthcare vision. The occasion also witnessed the felicitation of the ‘Doctors of
the Year – 2026’, recognising exemplary medical professionals for their commitment to patient
care, academic achievement, professional ethics, and service to society.
Delivering the keynote address, Padma Shri Dr. Sarbeswar Sahariah, eminent urologist and Pro Vice
Chancellor of USTM, stated that doctors achieve true excellence not merely through medical
expertise but through the trust and confidence they earn from the people they serve.
He emphasized that the highest measure of success in medicine lies in healing with empathy, integrity, and humanity.
He further reaffirmed the institution's commitment to advancing healthcare education, strengthening
medical infrastructure, and expanding quality healthcare services across the region through the
upcoming super-speciality healthcare facilities under USTM.
As part of the celebration, Premium Health Cards were distributed to members of the media
fraternity. The cards will provide significant concessions on medical consultations, treatments,
diagnostic services, and medicines at PA Sangma International Medical College & Hospital,
reflecting USTM’s commitment to inclusive healthcare and the welfare of those who contribute to
society through public service.
The programme concluded with a renewed pledge to uphold the noble values of the medical
profession and to continue serving humanity with dedication, compassion, and excellence.
