SWGH flying squad makes record seizure of illicit liquor

AMPATI: The Flying squad team of South West Garo Hills district late on Saturday night made a record seizure of IMFL which was being illegally smuggled to Assam through the inter-state border via Kalapani.
The quantity of liquor seized at 424,440 ml, was found to the highest seizure in the State during the run up to the elections.
Upon receiving specific information, the Flying Squad team with Magistrate in-charge L. Ch. Marak along with 71 Bn BSF G-company led by ASI Siva Chetia, ASI A K Rana and BSF jawans attached with flying squad team and police team led by SI A. K. Srivastava I/c Monabari Outpost awaited near Aidoba-Kalapani junction in South West Garo Hills and swooped down on the public carriage carrying huge quantity of IMFL under the cover of grocery items.
It was found that the liquor was being smuggled for use during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in Assam.
Meanwhile, the district election authorities have started distribution of appointment letters and polling materials to the polling parties detailed for duty in polling stations across the district on Sunday.
