SHILLONG: The HSPDP’s West Khasi Hills unit has decided to expel Fenela L Nonglait from primary membership of the party for her ‘anti-party activities’.

The decision to this effect was taken in a joint emergency meeting of the HSPDP’s West Khasi Hills and Mawthadraishan units held on Monday evening.

“She (Fenela) had been expelled for her involvement in anti-party activities,” HSPDP West Khasi Hills president Tuberlin Lyngdoh informed on Tuesday.

He informed that the party leaders in the district were disappointed with the action of Fenela to attend the public rally of UDP nominee Paul Lyngdoh at Mothphran on Monday.

“She (Fenela) had decided to go against the decision of the party. The party has decided to support PBM Basaiawmoit,” Lyngdoh said.

When contacted, Fenela said that she had nothing much to say on the decision to expel her from the party.

“I would wait for the final ruling of HSPDP president Hoping Stone Lyngdoh,” she said.

Fenela asserted that she had decided to attend Paul Lyngdoh’s public rally since she was supporting the North East Regional Parties Forum (NERPF), of which UDP is a part.

“If NERPF has managed to bring the parties from the region under a common platform, I strongly feel that the same should be replicated in the State,” she said.

While the three regional parties – UDP, HSPDP and KHNAM – are working together at the KHADC under the banner of All Regional Parties Alliance (ARPA), Fenela said that it was really sad they had failed to arrive at a consensus for a common candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat.

“In fact, I have written a letter to UDP president Donkupar Roy urging him that the alliance in KHADC should continue whatever be the outcome of the Lok Sabha election. We should work for strengthening of the regional forces in the State in the best interest of the indigenous population,” she said.
