SHILLONG: The division within HSPDP over the decision of the party to expel its leader Fenela L Nonglait for her ‘anti-party activities’ has become apparent with the party supremo Hoping Stone Lyngdoh denying having any knowledge about it.
Fenela, who had unsuccessfully contested the last district council election from Mawthadraishan constituency on a party ticket, was expelled by the West Khasi Hills unit of HSPDP on Monday after she attended an election rally of UDP candidate Paul Lyngdoh at Motphran.
Surprisingly, the HSPDP supremo said that he was not aware of such a decision.
“None of the party leaders from West Khasi Hills had consulted me before taking such a major decision. As a president, I should have been informed,” Lyngdoh said while talking to newsmen here on Thursday.
The veteran politician said that he would discuss the matter with the party leaders shortly.
“I would soon convene a meeting of the all the senior party leaders to find out the lapses. I would not entertain any decision to expel any member of the party without any valid reason,” he said.
When asked if Fenela had informed him before attending the UDP meeting, he said she only informed that she was attending a meeting of North East Regional Party Front (NERPF) of which UDP is a member.
“I am also supporting the NERPF since it is a good initiative to unite the various regional parties of the northeast. But we are yet to officially take a decision on joining this front,” the HSPDP supremo said.
Meanwhile, Mawthadraishan constituency HSPDP general secretary Rosterlin Kharlait expressed strong reservation over the decision of a section of the leaders to expel Fenela from the party.
“We were never made party to such a major decision. A section of the party leaders are trying to impose its decision on the party workers at the grass-root level. We would not accept this decision to expel Fenela unless the HSPDP president endorses it,” he said.
Fenela has clarified that she had attended the meeting of the UDP candidate at her personal level.
