6 schools bag medals on opening day in EJH

SHILLONG: Two disciplines were conducted and 12 medals distributed on the opening day of the three-day 2nd East Jaintia Hills Inter School Athletic Meet 2014, held at Teilang Playground, Khliehriat, on Tuesday.

C Dunai, Assistant Director, Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, was the chief guest at the opening ceremony. Also present was the District Sports Officer for East and West Jaintia Hills, Hering Shangpliang.

Nineteen schools are taking part in the meet, with six bagging medal-place finishes on Tuesday.

Krant Bell Sec School is the most successful so far with seven medals, including two gold.

The two disciplines held on the opening day were long jump and shot put for the under-14s, both boys and girls.

Results:

Long jump (boys): Gold – Suniki Siangshai (Good Shepherd Sec School); Silver – Sorly Rymbai (Krant Bell Sec School); Bronze – July Ewanmi Siangshai (Krant Bell Sec School)

Long jump (girls): Gold – Marbudki Dkhar (Krant Bell Sec School); Silver – Klob Bang (Sein Jait Tuber Sec School); Bronze – Dakini Dkhar (Krant Bell Sec School)

Shot put (boys): Gold – Ronengson Dkhar (Krant Bell Sec School); Silver – July Ewanmi Siangshai (Krant Bell Sec School); Bronze – A Dkhar (Rymbai Pohskur Sec School)

Shot put (girls): Gold – Merimon Dkhar (Khliehriat Pres Sec School); Silver – Recy Myrchiang (Krant Bell Sec School); Bronze – Merika Suja (Tluh Sec School)
