SHILLONG: Two climbers from Meghalaya completed courses in Uttarakhand and Darjeeling recently.
Hokson Lyngdoh, who attended the Search and Rescue course at the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in Uttarakhand, and Ibakorkor Mary Sawian, who attended the Methods of Instruction (MOI), an instructor course at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling, were awarded Grade A status, the highest grade given for their performance.
The trainees in search and rescue (March 20-April 10) were required to be physically and mentally fit and were trained in techniques such as rescue of casualties on mountains and other disaster calamities, like earthquakes and landslides, and the use of new rescue equipment, navigation and orientation.
MOI trainees (March 2-29) were instructed in how to impart training to mountaineering beginners.
