DC orders road closure for repair works

NONGSTOIN: The Deputy Commissioner West Khasi Hills District, Sylvester Kharlyngdoh through an order has ordered for the closure of the road between Nongstoin and Darugiri in West Khasi Hills District on April 16 and 17.

The order was passed by the DC in order to enable the PWD (Roads) to effectively carry out their repair work on the bridge no 10/1. The closure would be effective from 7 AM of April 16 to 7 PM of April 17.

The DC urged upon all the truck drivers, owners and other commuters to co-operate with the order for their own benefit.

The closure of this stretch would mean the closure of the road to Maweit, a coal belt area in West Khasi Hills District.

About 300 trucks ply to and fro along this stretch on a daily basis. On the fateful days, these coal bearing trucks would come to a standstill incurring heavy losses not only to the coal truckers but also to the state’s exchequer.
