Interesting visitor to Shillong
Dipen Jalan a 15-year-old boy studying in Class XI (Commerce) in Hyderabad has been an avid fan of the Shillong Chamber Choir since their India’s Got Talent days.
He became their Facebook friend and kept abreast of all their programmes. On Saturday he came to Shillong, all alone, to meet them in person.
On Easter Sunday, Neil Nongkynrih put up a play in Khasi, “Mary Magdalene” in Operetta style, at a makeshift stage at the Choir residence in Whispering Pines, Pohkseh. Donna Myrthong acted as Mary Magdalene and the other Choir members took up different roles.
A select audience of 40 people sat through the marvellously choreographed play. In the audience was Dipen Jalan mesmerised by the performance of the Choir even while William Basaiawmoit gave him the English translation.
He saw another side of them – the acting side. Later talking to this correspondent, Dipen said, “I feel so blessed to be in Shillong and see this show and also to interact with the Choir members in person.” For young Dipen this journey to Shillong is a musical pilgrimage.
Tackling the garbage menace
This picture taken recently shows an innovative manner of tackling the irresponsible attitude of people for whom, hurtling garbage across their walls is the end of a civic responsibility. Located on the bridge adjacent to Nagaland house, this structure, elegantly refrains people from turning the little stream into an eyesore. Kudos to all who came up with this brilliant idea!
