SHILLONG: The Office of the Divisional Forest Officer, Social Forestry Division, East Khasi Hills District, organized a programme to observe Earth Day 2014 on Tuesday at Sohiong Presbyterian Secondary School, East Khasi Hills. The theme of the programme was “Green Cities”.
P.H.S Bonney, Conservator of Forests (Territorial & Wildlife), Shillong, attended the function as the chief guest in the presence of S.A. Nongsiej, Division Forest Officer, L. Shabong, Assistant Soil & Water Conservation Officer, S. Nongrang, Asst. Headmistress of Sohiong Presbyterian Secondary School, besides teachers and school students.
In his speech, Bonney lauded the efforts of the office of the Divisional Forestry Division for organizing the programme, adding that this kind of programme will inculcate upon the students the need to protect the environment.
The official further stated that the student community should grasp the opportunity to learn more on various aspects of protecting the environment and to come up with a solution to help in keeping the environment green and clean.
