KNLA ultras killed, arms found

Diphu: Two suspected insurgents of the underground Karbi National Liberation Army (KNLA) were killed in an encounter with police in Karbi Anglong district of Assam and arms recovered from them, police said on Saturday.

A group of militants exchanged fire with police at a place north of Uttar Borbil outpost under Howraghat police station at 10.50 PM last night, they said here.

Two unidentified cadre suffered bullet injuries in the encounter and were taken to the nearby Nazar Mini Primary Health Centre where doctors declared them brought dead, they said. Three other extremists in the group fled under cover of darkness.

Two M-20 pistols with empty shells and one live ammunition, an improvised explosive device (IED) with nine batteries, five rounds of empty cases and five rounds of ammunition, extortion notes in KNLA letterhead, a bag and a mobile handset were recovered from the slain ultras, the sources added.
