Kohima: The ongoing ceasefire agreement between the Union government and the NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) has been extended for another year, official sources said here on Saturday.
The earlier ceasefire agreement between the two sides is due to expire on Sunday.
The new ceasefire extension agreement was signed by Shambhu Singh, Joint Secretary to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (NE), on behalf of the union government and Supervisor of Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFSB) C Singson on behalf of the outfit after a meeting on Friday.
Later Singh told reporters said that the government had decided to extend the truce for another year as “years of goodwill cannot be frittered away.”
NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) faction was formed by a dissenting group of cadres of NSCN-K under the leadership of Khole Konyak and Kitovi Zhimoni in 2011 and the Centre signed the first ceasefire agreement with the faction for one year on April 27, 2012.
Meanwhile, NSCN-KK Cease Fire ‘supervisor’, C Singson, said the ongoing dialogues between the Government of India and the NSCN-IM have become a stumbling block for the Nagas to come forward.
He said for over 15 years the talks have been going on but without transparency saying only Delhi and NSCN-IM know what have been discussed. (PTI)
