ATM service hit hard
SHILLONG: To the great inconvenience of common people in Shillong, the ATM services of some of the banks have been hit by the on-going bouts of power cuts.
The effect of load shedding was experience in many ATMs across the city on Saturday, including the SBI E Corner where many ATM machines were found to be out of order.
A source in the State Bank of India said that the ATMS had a UPS system which provided backup for six hours but if the load shedding continued for prolonged periods, then ATM services were bound to be affected.
While the Khasi Hills is bearing the brunt of load shedding, the Garo Hills also remain under darkness, thanks to the prolonged power cuts.
Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills Ram Singh said that though there were no public complaints against the load shedding but it was taking its toll on the people as that part of the state experienced hot and humid conditions.
According to Singh, the load shedding was also resulting in scarcity of water since many people cannot pump their water due to non availability of power.
It is learnt that load shedding in Ampati, the constituency of the Chief Minister, is continued for 10-12 hours in a day and though many Government offices have backup supports but offices are functioning only when there is no power cut.
