48-hour Jaintia Hills bandh called off

JOWAI: The five pressure groups from Jaintia Hills (SRS, AJYWO, KSU, HNYF and FKJGP) have decided to call off the 48-hour total bandh in view of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of India (PCI) to be hosted by the Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Church.

“We have decided to call off the bandh in view of the General Assemby of the PCI,” the five NGOs said in statement issued on Monday.

The five pressure groups also stated that they were urged upon by church bodies to call off this bandh.

Earlier, the NGOs along with the general public of East Jaintia Hills District decided to intensify their agitation programme by calling a 48-hour total bandh in the district to be effective from 5am of April 30 till 5am of May 2 to oppose the delay in repairing the NH-44 from Soomer to Malidor.
