One harassed on witchcraft charge

SHILLONG: In another case of harassing people on the pretext of practicing with craft, one person of Tyrsad was apprehended by the villagers of Mawliehpoh, tied up and wrongfully confined for the whole night at Mawliehpoh LP School, Tyrsad, after accusing him of practicing witchcraft.

The incident happened on Sunday night when Bakhraw Kharryngi (56) was apprehended by the villagers of Mawliehpoh.

East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang said that Bakhraw Kharryngi was brought to Tyrsad Umkseh and kept there till he was rescued on Monday.

According to Kharkrang, the victim filed an FIR against King Rani, Bantei Rani, Aikos Mary Sawkmie, Roy Rani, Headman of Mawliehpoh village, and Kral Rangslang, Headman of Pomsanngut village for wrongfully confining him and instigating the villagers against him. The in- charge of Mawngap Outpost is enquiring into the matter and a case is being taken up.
