St Mary’s run away with athletics awards on final day

SHILLONG: St Mary’s HS School swept the best athlete and best team awards among the girls schools at the East Khasi Hills District Level Inter School Athletics Meet 2014, which concluded at the Don Bosco Mini Stadium, Laitumkhrah, on Thursday.

The only honour that St Mary’s failed to claim was the award for best march past, which went to Loreto Convent.

The boys awards were shared by several schools – H Elias HS School, St Anthony’s HS School, KC Secondary School and Government Boys HS School.

FM Dopth, director of Sports and Youth Affairs was the chief guest at the closing ceremony, while Father Bernard Pala, principal of St Anthony’s, was the guest of honour.

Final day results:

Best Athlete (boys):

Above-16 – Wanphira Lyngkhoi, H Elias School

Under-16 – Deini Challam, St Anthony’s

Under-14 – Tyrshain Chyrmang, H Elias School

Best Athlete (girls):

Above-16 – Shailja Chettri, St Mary’s

Under-16 – Clarissa Pyngrope, St Mary’s

Under-14 – Eliana Lamare, St Mary’s

Best Team (boys):

Above-16 – St Anthony’s

Under-16 – St Anthony’s

Under-14 – KC Sec School

Best Team (girls):

Above-16 – St Mary’s

Under-16 – St Mary’s

Best march past:

Boys – Government Boys HS School

Girls – Loreto Convent
