SHILLONG: A fine display of football from the boys and girls of East Khasi Hills district saw them win the finals of the State Level Chief Minister’s Football Tournament for the under-12s at the JN Stadium, Polo, on Saturday morning.

The EKH girls were 6-0 victors over East Jaintia Hills, while the boys won 3-1 against West Khasi Hills.

The two East Khasi Hills teams were the strongest throughout the competition, which witnessed good quality football from all the districts.

On Saturday, Nisilia Majaw continued in her goal-scoring ways by putting five past the opposition and thus taking her overall tally to 15 in the competition.

Nisilia played for Khatarshnong in the district-level tournament that preceded the statewide event.

Marbarin Nongrum, another multiple scorer, produced the other goal of the match.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the pitch, the boys final was a very competitive affair.

The JN Stadium ground was divided into two, with the boys and girls playing on half a pitch each, allowing for two simultaneous finals.

The two boys teams showed signs of some excellent talent in passing, controlling the ball and execution. Both squads also played as a unit and demonstrated good sportsmanship as well.

Rickjohn Shabong opened the scoring in the eighth minute before Damewanshan Nengnong doubled EKH’s lead.

West Khasi Hills, however, were determined not to give up without a fight and pulled a goal back in the 39th minute through Kynsai.

Then, just as their hopes must have seen a lift, Rickjohn produced another goal in the 45th minuteto make it 3-1 and the scoreline did not change until the final whistle brought victory for East Khasi Hills.
