SHILLONG, July 19: A 23-year-old man from Muktapur village in West Jaintia Hills has gone missing while travelling in Karnataka, prompting his family and the Meghalaya Police to appeal for public help in tracing him.
The missing youth has been identified as Kwis Sumer, son of Hill Sumer of Muktapur.
His mother lodged an FIR at the Muktapur Police Patrol Post on July 15 after she could no longer establish contact with him.
Police said Sumer left home on July 10 to meet Sanu Lamare, a fellow villager employed in Karnataka, and take up a job there. The family remained in touch with him during the journey and last spoke to him after he reached Bengaluru.
He was last seen around 10 pm on July 13 while travelling by train from Bengaluru to Hubballi in North Karnataka. Since then, all attempts to reach him have failed, though his mobile phone initially continued to ring.
Following the complaint, the Muktapur police patrol post circulated a missing person alert and requested Karnataka police authorities to conduct inquiries and share any information immediately.
Sumer is about 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs around 60 kg and has a brown complexion, short black hair, black eyes, a pointed nose and a long face. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and black trousers. He is fluent in War Jaintia, Bengali and Hindi languages.
The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Bengaluru Unit has also appealed to the public to help locate the youth by sharing his details and reporting any useful information.
