Manipur continue on merry way, Sikkim, Tripura lose

SHILLONG: Manipur won their third consecutive match at the 20th Women’s National Football Championship by eclipsing Madhya Pradesh 9-0 in Bokakhat, Assam, on Saturday.

The margins of victory are coming down somewhat, however; the North East state had defeated Chhattisgarh 22-0 in their opener and Uttar Pradesh 13-0 in the next game.

Manipur sit second in Group A on goal difference behind Railways, who also won their third straight fixture on Saturday by beating Maharashtra 12-0.

Chhattisgarh got past UP 4-0 in the other match in Group A.

In Group C action in Dibrugarh, Sikkim and Tripura lost yet again, this time to Delhi and West Bengal, respectively, by identical 2-1 margins.

Tripura are at the bottom of the group with zero poitns from four outings, while Sikkim are one spot above in fifth position thanks to an earlier victory against West Bengal.

In the other contest in Group C, Bihar and Kerala drew 1-1.

North East teams will again be in action on Sunday.

Arunachal Pradesh will take on Tamil Nadu, while Assam go up against Pondicherry in Group D games in Golaghat. Assam are the current group leaders.

Mizoram will also be in action on Sunday in a match against Haryana in Group B in Dibrugarh. Mizoram are currently third in that group.
