St Nanak, Laban Bengalee win cricket titles

SHILLONG: St Nanak Sec School and Laban Bengalee Boys HS School emerged as U-16 and U-19 champions, respectively, in the finals of two Shillong Cricket Association tournaments at Polo Grounds on Tuesday.
St Nanak defeated BK Bajoria HS School by four wickets in the 9th IP Das Memorial U-16 tournament, while Laban Bengalee beat Garo Union Sec School by seven wickets in the 6th Babu Ondromoni Dkhar Memorial U-19 tournament.
St Nanak won the toss and elected to field and restricted BK Bajoria to 107/8 in 25 overs. Bikash Kumar claimed a devastating five-wicket haul (5-15, five overs), while Ram N Chauhan provided 32 runs.
In reply, St Nanak reached the target in 23.3 overs, losing six wickets. Rajan top-scored with an unbeaten 32, while Kiran Biswas bagged 2-28 in five overs.
In the U-19 final, Laban Bengalee Boys also won the toss and chose to put their opponents in to bat first.
Garo Union were bundled out for just 42 in 14 overs with Amarjeet Yadav taking 3-5 in two overs.
Laban Bengalee then had little trouble, reaching the target for the loss of three wickets in 8.4 overs. Supriyo Chanda scored 23 off just 15 deliveries for the champions.
