SHILLONG: Unhappy with the response of some banks which had kept their branches closed during the office picketing call by the proscribed HNLC, the Meghalaya Government has decided to take action against the managers of those banks who had kept their branches shut on Thursday.

Acting Chief Secretary Barkos Warjri on Thursday said the State Government will impose a penalty on those erring banks who kept their shutters down.

On Wednesday, during a high-level meeting, the bank officials had assured the State Government that they would operate their respective banks normally during the shutdown call.

The State Government also said that Central government employees who did not attend duty on Thursday would be marked as being on unauthorized leave.

He also said that notices would be issued to the banks and the heads of the Central and State Government offices whose employees did not attend office on Thursday.
