SHILLONG: In preparations to the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections on May 16, the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal, who is also the Returning Officer for Shillong Lok Sabha seat, held a training programme for the counting officers and assistants on Friday.

The next round of training will be held on May 13.

Goyal said tight security arrangements have been made in around the area where as many as 644 EVMs are kept. Moreover, a magistrate makes regular visit to the strong rooms to ensure the safety of EVMs.

Though the election was held for Meghalaya on April 9, the long wait will be over only on May 16 as the counting was fixed on that day for the whole country by the Election Commission.
