EKH DC concerned over devil worship
SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills District administration has taken cognizance of reports of children being attracted towards a cult bordering on devil worship.
In recent weeks there have been reports of young children being drawn by friends to secluded areas in the suburbs of the city where they were exposed to rituals after which they returned home and behaved in an unusual manner.
According to one family, a Class 8 student was taken by friends to a forest area in Moti Nagar after tuition last Thursday where he witnessed some sort of ritual led by a man clad in black.
“He returned home around 10:00pm and behaved differently even as he tied a red ribbon on our gate,” a family member said. “When asked why he did so, he replied that he was instructed to do so to identify himself with the group.”
The next day he was picked up from outside his school by the same man dressed in black and upon reaching the forest area his apparel changed into white colour, the relative related the boy’s account. “It seems the man told him that if he believed in him he would never fail,” said the worried relative.
Another location where such weird gatherings take place is at an abandoned graveyard in Mawlai Mawroh sources further added.
There have been reports of young people being solicited towards a particular house in Laitumkhrah area where some sort of ritual is being practiced, sources inform. The gathering takes place every Wednesday sources added.
Meanwhile, the district administration has taken the matter seriously and is working in tandem with the police to investigate into such reports which if found true will be dealt with accordingly, officials stated.
“We are aware and concerned about such incidents and we are already on the job to deal with the matter,” an official said.
