SHILLONG: Home Minister Roshan Warjri said on Monday that she had sought a detailed report from the West Garo Hills district administration on the arrest of five alleged devil worshippers.
The Tura police on Saturday arrested five boys aged over 18 years hailing from the Ringre Gittim locality. They were picked up by police late in the night from a graveyard after they were found to be standing and chanting prayers.
“The Government has sought a report on this matter. The Government is disturbed by this development,” Warjri said in Shillong.
The Home Minister also informed that the Government was also awaiting the report of the magisterial enquiry.
“The government will not take the matter lightly and is committed to arrive at a definitive conclusion so that necessary action is taken to prevent our young people from falling prey to such practices,” she asserted.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal said that the district administration was holding consultation with church leaders, traditional heads and others to find out a way to prevent this trend where youths are reported to be indulging in devil worship.
He said that they were facing a problem in getting to the root cause of the problem since information was not forthcoming.
“We would come with some definite measures to address this issue,” Goyal said.
