One held for extorting in the name of HNLC

SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills Police on Tuesday arrested one person for allegedly demanding ransom in the name of HNLC.

East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang said that a ransom of Rs 7 lakh was demanded from one Shainsing Marbaniang who was asked to deliver the amount near Pomlum village.

Police, however, laid an ambush and arrested one Shrine Bostolar Lyngkhoi when he came to collect the bag.

Police are yet to verify if the arrested person is working for the HNLC.
