Kohima: The border dispute between Nagaland and Assam turned volatile again with the killing of a youth from Diezephe village under Dimapur district, reportedly by the Assam police.
Official sources on Wednesday said a 30-year-old man was on a fishing trip with a friend in Dhansiri river and were reportedly using ‘batteries’ while fishing.
Sources said the incident occurred near Murise village across the river on the Assam side.
An Assam Police outpost is also located about 900-1000 yards away from where the incident took place.
The deceased, along with his friend, was taking a break at around 4 PM when they were shot at.
The man died instantly after receiving a gunshot above his left temple.
Nearby residents said they heard five gun shots and five empty shells of 7.62 mm used in Self Loading Rifles (SLR) were also recovered by the Nagaland Police personnel from the Sub Urban Police Station, after they rushed to the spot on receipt of information.
They recovered the body with the gun shot injury.
The battery which was used for fishing has been confiscated by the Nagaland Police.
The body has been handed over to the family after necessary formalities.
The deceased has been identified as Ento Nyekha of Diezephe village under Dhansiripar Block in Dimapur district, sources said. (UNI)
