TURA: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) has condemned the absence of basic amenities at the Asanang Primary Health Centre due to which people including those living in adjoining areas were facing a number of problems.

The union informed that there had been no water supply to the Primary Health Centre since January 2014 and the medical staff and the patients were finding it difficult to fetch water from elsewhere, the worst sufferers being expectant mothers.

Further, the union revealed that there was lack of power backup with only one inverter for the maternity ward and has requested the concerned authorities to provide additional power backup for other wards as well.

The union claimed that there is no night shift doctor in the Primary Health Centre which was causing a lot of inconveniences to the patients since they have to rely on nurses in case of emergency during the night.

It stated that the absence of a night shift doctor was also affecting the police department as they cannot obtain the medical report for cases occurring during the night thereby delaying procedures.

Stating that the few things if made available could solve the problem of the people to a great extent the union has made an appeal to the District Medical and Health Officer of West Garo Hills to look into the matter at the earliest.

A copy of the appeal has also been forwarded to the Medical Health Officer of Asanang Primary Health Centre.
