SHILLONG: The KSU has reiterated that it has never come down on its demand for implementation of the ILP as per the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873.
“Our demand to implement the ILP is very much alive. Considering seriousness of the issue, the pro-ILP pressure groups realised on the need to put in place some mind of mechanism to check the problem of influx and inflow of illegal immigrants before it is too late,” KSU president Daniel Khyriem told newsmen after the General Council meeting here on Thursday.
He said that they finally came up with a comprehensive mechanism during the second round of meeting to tackle the problem.
“The present Government will not remain in power forever. We will again rake up this issue once we have a Government who is in favour for implementation of the ILP,” KSU president said.
Khyriem said that he was surprise to see that the media had termed the comprehensive mechanism which they have suggested as ‘modified ILP’.
“We have not given any name,” he said.
Meanwhile, the KSU president expressed his happiness that Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has welcome the suggestion given by the pressure groups.
“We hope that the Government implements the various mechanisms which they have suggested at the earliest,” he said.
