TURA: In view of the deplorable condition of the Pa Togan Sangma Memorial at Chisobibra near Williamnagar in East Garo Hills a proposal for its renovation and repairing of has been submitted to the District Administration.
The Pa Togan Sangma Memorial Association (PTSMA) which submitted the proposal pointed out various repair works that needed to be done including repairs to the ‘Millam’ (sword) which had broken off, replacement of tiles of the cenotaph that had come off, reconstruction of the brick wall surrounding the memorial which had been broken down by timber smugglers, replacement of foundation stone which was torn down as well as repairs to the footpaths among others.
The (PTSMA) urged the District Council to give special attention to renovation works for the progress and development of the entire memorial site.
It may be mentioned that every year on 12th December, the death Anniversary of the Garo Martyr is celebrated at the Memorial site in Chisobibra. This year’s celebration would mark the martyr’s 142nd Death Anniversary.
