Congress retains lone LS seat in Mizoram

Aizawl: Sitting Lok Sabha member C L Ruala of the ruling Congress was re-elected to the lone Mizoram Lok Sabha seat and will represent the North Eastern state for two consecutive terms.

Ruala defeated his nearest rival Robert Romawia Royte of the United Democratic Front (UDF), the eight party opposition alliance by a margin of 11,361 votes in a triangular contest.

He contested the elections held on April 11 against two opponents – Robert Romawia Royte, an independent candidate sponsored by the eight-party United Democratic Alliance (UDF) and Michael Lalmanzuala of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Congress wins both LS seats in Manipur

Imphal: Congress has won both the Lok Sabha seats in Manipur as its candidates retained the Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur seats.

Inner Manipur sitting MP from Congress Thokchom Meinya won the seat by defeating his nearest CPI rival Moirangthem Nara by more than 1 lakh votes.

In Outer Manipur seat, sitting Cong MP Thangso Baite defeated his nearest NPF rival Soso Lorho by more than 15,000 votes. (PTI)
