JOWAI: In protest against the ban on rate hole mining in Meghalaya, the Jaintia Hills Truck Owners Association (JHTOA) have called for a strike on Monday.

JHTOA president, Balen Thubru informed that in a meeting held on Friday, the union decided to call for a one day strike in protest against the NGT ban on coal mining.

“During the day long strike, trucks including cement laden trucks, commercial and non commercial trucks will stay off road”, Thubru said adding that the NGT ban on coal mining will badly affect all truck owners.

“Mostly, trucks were purchased on loan and if the ban continues, we will not be able to pay back the loan which we procured from various financial institutions”, Thubru informed.

Meanwhile, the JTHOA has also decided to strongly support the 12-hour bandh called by the Jainita Hills Coal Miners and Dealers Association (JCMDA) on Saturday from 5 am to 5 pm.

The JHTOA chief has also requested the State government to take up the matter with the NGT so that the ban on coal mining could be lifted for the survival of thousands in the State.
