Agartala: As expected, the ruling Left Front won both- West Tripura and East Tripura Lok Sabha constituencies giving a bash to its arch rival- Congress.

While Left nominee Sankar Prasad Dutta, who contested in the prestigious West Tripura Lok Sabha seat, secured 6, 67,086 votes, Congress candidate Prof Arunoday Saha bagged only 1, 67,226 votes, according to the results declared by the Election Commission on Friday. The winning margin stood 4, 99,860 in the West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency.

All India Trinamool Congress candidate Ratan Chakraborty secured 1,15,618 votes and BJP candidate Sudhindra Dasgupta managed to secure only 54406 votes.

Left nominee for the East Tripura Lok Sabha constituency Jitendra Chowdhury won the battle of ballots by bagging 5,94,006 votes while its arch rival Congress’s Sachitra Debbarma got only 1,33,458 votes.

All India Trinamool Congress candidate Bhriguram Reang got 74,065 votes while BJP nominee Parikshit Debbarma secured only 58388 votes. According the election result, the battle of ballots in the state was one-sided with opposition failing to put up any resistance to the ruling party. The winning margin stood 4,60,548 votes

Despite landslide victory in both seats, the Left Front in Tripura remained tightlipped after the party’s disastrous performance in two ‘traditional’ bastions- Kerala and West Bengal. Alarmed by the result, the ruling front has not organize any victory rally , which is unusual in the state.

Same was the case with the Congress, the main opposition party in the Marxist ruled Tripura on the election verdict. However, the BJP buoyed by the party’s land slide victory on Friday organized a victory rally in the capital town.
