SCA 1 wins U-16 tourney

SHILLONG: Shillong Cricket Association (1) defeated Shillong Cricket Association (2) by 93 runs in the final of U-16 cricket tournament organized by Meghalaya Cricket Association at the Cricket Ground, Polo on Saturday.

Electing to bat first SCA (1) scored 164 runs losing nine wickets in the allotted 35 overs. Ram Nakshatra Chatra Chauhan scored a brisk 55 runs of 46 balls while Mukesh Rai scored 24 runs of 22 balls. Atul Singh grabbed two wickets giving away 16 runs of his four overs. In reply, SCA (2) were dismissed for a paltry 71 runs in 14.3 overs.

Aman Barbase was the top scorer with 20 runs of 27 balls. Md. Asif bowled brilliantly to retain figures 4-16 in 1.3 overs while Md Azharuddin grabbed four wickets of 15 runs from his four overs.

In the finals of the Women’s Cricket Tournament held earlier, South West Khasi Hills defeated Shillong Crikcet Association (1) by 54 runs. The prize for the tourney was distributed on Saturday. Put into bat, South West Khasi Hills put up a fighting total of 96 runs for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 15 overs.

Aidaris Kharmalki scored a steady 27 runs of 34 balls while Rebecca Kharsahnoh grabbed three wickets from equal number of overs. In reply, SCA (1) were dismissed for 42 runs in 12.5 overs. Angelis Turnia grabbed three wickets giving away just seven runs of three overs. Luiza Tamang scalped two wickets to seal a magnificent bowling performance for South West Khasi Hills.

Prizes for both tournaments and announcement of five scholarships for players from both the above categories were also announced.
