New Delhi: The issue of the resignation of Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma over the dismal election performance in Tura did not come up at the Congress Working Committee meeting in Delhi on Monday.

With the CWC rejecting the offer of resignation of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Chief Ministers of Congress ruled states also had a reprieve, sources said.

Sangma told The Shillong Times after the meeting that there was no talk of resignations of Chief Ministers. The Lok Sabha results were different in different Congress-ruled states, he pointed out. The opposition NPP had demanded the resignation of Sangma.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister arrived in Delhi after the election results were announced and met several top AICC leaders.
