TURA: From his childhood SUBHENDU KARMAKAR had been different. He was ruled by a passion to learn not only the mundane but also the sublime. At a time and age when the young are lured into a more materialistic education, Subhendu was keen to learn among other things, his mother tongue Bangla.

Little did he mind changing his school, if it brought him to closer to what he wanted. A true believer in the Eucledian adage ‘that there is no royal road to geometry’ Subhendu practices the creed of hard work.
Being fully aware that one must labour to be beautiful, Subhendu like other conscientious students has put in his heart, soul and time into his academics. And lo and behold, his hard work has paid off.

Subhendu Karmakar, son of Indu Bhushan Karmakar a teacher of Tura Town High School did his alma mater proud by securing the 2nd position in the SSLC Examination -2014. A die -hard lover of his mother tongue, Subhendu Karmakar has other interests too like his desire to become an astrophysicist. With a 98 in Mathematics his desire should stand him in good stead.
A home-loving chubby girl, DRISHTI DE’s innocuous looks belies her grit and determination. The only daughter of a lecturer and an officer of the BSNL, Drishti De attributes he success to her parents and her grounding in academics, religion and ethics. Taking a cue from her science -obsessed father, who has a way with gadgets, Drishti aspires to be an engineer.
With an engineer as a father and a teacher of a reputed school as a mother, SHREYA BHATTACHARYA has claims to a proud lineage. This girl from Tura Sherwood School who secured 6th position in the SSLC Examination nurses a healthy interest in reading, games and dance such as Kathak. Ala others of her generation, she too is bitten by the technology bug and aspires to be a software designer.
With icons as ancient as Vivekananda and as recent as Sachin Tendulkar, Shreya has a long way to go.
JEREMY M SANGMA who regards himself as an average student is an avid reader and keeps himself update on current affairs. Having secured the 17th position, he attributes his success to his teachers and seniors who he says instilled confidence in him.
A meticulous planner with his studies, Jeremy who desires to follow in the footsteps of his doctor parents aspires to be a neurologist.

ALLEGRA T SANGMA, the daughter of government employees, Jayanto K Marak and Monggera T Sangma who secured 19th position is the only position holder from her school St. Xavier’s. She attributes her success to her parents, hard work and faith in God. A hard working student she aspires to be an aeronautical engineer fascinated as she is by figures and numbers.
The HSSLC Arts result that was declared simultaneously along with the SSLC results witnessed a lone performance by Tura’s Don Bosco College.
AMBAR MINJ of Don Bosco College, Tura, was the only achiever from Garo Hills, sharing the seventh position with two others from Lady Keane and St. Anthony’s colleges, respectively.
AMIKA K WAR of Auxillium Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Shillong, was the topper in the Arts stream securing 431 marks with five distinctions.
St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong notched the highest number of positions securing seven berths including the second slot in the top ten list.
St. Mary’s College, Shillong secured two positions, followed by Seven Set Annexe Higher Secondary School, Shillong and St. John’s Higher Secondary, Shillong with one position each.
