Pregnant woman gangraped, two booked
Thane: A 22-year-old pregnant woman was allegedly gangraped by two persons at a village in Shahapur taluka of the district, police said on Wednesday. The woman was five months’ pregnant at the time of offence, police said quoting her medical examination report. While the victim was alone at home in Ghoteghar village of Thane on Monday afternoon when her husband and other family members had gone to attend a marriage, two unidentified persons entered her house on the pretext of repairing a faulty cable, Shahapur assistant police inspector Bapusaheb Shinde said. The duo tied her legs before they took turns to rape her. They also inflicted injuries on her body, including her private parts, he said. After committing the crime, the accused fled from the spot. Later, when her husband and other family members returned home at night, the woman informed them about the offence. The victim yesterday filed a complaint about the crime with Shahapur police. The duo was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and a search was on to nab them, police said. The victim was being treated at a government hospital in Shahapur, they added. Kiran Bedi ready to be BJP’s Delhi CM candidate
New Delhi: A day after dropping hints of joining politics, former IPS officer and Team Anna member Kiran Bedi today said she was ready to become the BJP’s Chief Ministerial nominee in Delhi if such an offer was made to her. “I will consider myself to be ready for it if such an offer is made,” she said. The former IPS officer was asked if she would become the BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate in case of fresh elections in Delhi. The BJP had projected Harsh Vardhan as the party’s Chief Ministerial candidate in the Assembly polls in December last year. Vardhan has won the Lok Sabha election from Chandni Chowk and there is speculation that Bedi may be considered the BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate in the next assembly polls. Bedi, who has been heaping praise on Narendra Modi in the past couple of months, on Tuesday dropped hints of joining politics. “I no more rule out entering Indian political service on capability basis. I am moving towards some flexibility in this,” she had tweeted. (PTI)
