Bandh paralyses normal life in Dima Hasao

Haflong (Assam): Normal life was paralysed in Haflong and some other parts of Dima Hasao district today following a 24-hour-bandh called by North Cachar Hills Indigenous Student Forum (NCHISF) and North Cachar Hills Indigenous Women Forum (NCHIWF).
All business establishments, schools, colleges, transport system, banks, post offices and other offices remain closed in Haflong and some other parts of the district but places like Maibang, Gunjung and Diyungmukh were not affected by the bandh.
There was no untoward incident reported so far, official sources said.
The bandh, which began 5am today, has been called demanding immediate creation of a new district under Article 244(2) and 275(1) of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
The bandh supporters also demanded an investigation by Central agencies CBI and NIA into the Rs one thousand crore scam in the district and to take immediate action against all involved in it as make publish the findings of the till date investigations.
The bandh was also called demanding an immediate payment of seven months’ salary to N C Hills Autonomous Council employees. (PTI)
