Scales three Himalayan peaks successively in six days

Itanagar: A woman mountaineer from Arunachal, Anshu Jamsenpa has scripted history once again by scaling three Himalayan peaks successively in six days after setting world records during her earlier Everest expeditions.
During the expedition, Anshu 28 and a mother of two, scaled three Himalayan peaks – Lobuche (6119 meters), Pokhalde (5896m) and Island Peak (6189m)- successively in six days from May 13 to May 18.
For her excellent performance, she was felicitated by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation, Nepal at Singha Durbar, Kathmandu, on May 27.
While most of her fellow mountaineers, part of an international team essaying the three peaks, returned to their respective countries after scaling the first peak, Anshu went on to climb these three peaks undeterred by a deadly avalanche which killed 16 sherpa climbers just above her camp site at 19000 ft.
She hails from the Monpa tribe of Bomdila area. Anshu, had earlier scaled Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak twice in a gap of ten days becoming the first mother in the world to do so.
During the expedition, she trekked through three high passes namely Cho La (5330 meters), Reno (5360m) and Kongma La (5533m), official sources said here on Friday.
While she was descending from her three peak expedition, she learnt that another Indian woman Everester Chhanda Gayen and two sherpa guides had gone missing on May 20 in the periphery of Khumbu region.
This year mountain expeditions have been among the worst hit by avalanches, Anshu said. Joint Secretary of Nepal government M S Burlakoti congratulated her for patronising Nepal Himalayas for the last five years and assured that his Ministry would adjust the royalty fee of USD 11000 in her next Everest Expedition scheduled during spring 2015, sources said.
She was also felicitated at the Indian Embassy, Kathmandu.
Secretary Abhay Kumar presented her a book, “Remains”. He stated that Anshu was the pride of India and her mountaineering achievement was a source of inspiration and encouragement to the youths at large and women in particular.
He also made an audio visual presentation on ‘Earth Anthem’ which UNESCO has hailed as a creative and inspiring initiative that would contribute bringing the world together.
The diplomat requested Anshu to be one of the global ambassadors for ‘Earth Anthem’ to which she agreed in principle. (PTI)
